Privacy Policy — LaniGuard Protection & Security

At LaniGuard Protection & Security (“LaniGuard,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), we are committed to protecting the personal information entrusted to us by our clients, job applicants, employees, and contractors. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how and why we collect it, and how we protect it, in accordance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and other applicable law.

1. Who This Policy Covers

This policy applies to personal information we collect through laniguard.ca, our payment portal, our online forms, and in the course of providing close protection, event security, and related services. It covers information about clients and event contacts, as well as job applicants, employees, and contractors.

2. Personal Information We Collect

From clients and event contacts:

• Name and contact details (email, phone)

• Event, booking, or service details — dates, venue, and logistical requirements

• Payment and billing information

• Any other details you share to help us plan and deliver protection or event security (for example, travel details for a touring artist, or venue access requirements)

From job applicants, employees, and contractors:

• Name and contact details

• Resume and work history

• Provincial security license status, and ProTect and ProServe certification status

• Availability, and how you heard about the position

• Age confirmation, where a role requires it

Employee and contractor personal information is handled under PIPA’s separate provisions for employee personal information. We collect only what’s reasonably needed for recruitment, scheduling, and confirming the credentials our industry requires.

3. How We Collect Personal Information

We collect personal information directly from you — when you contact us, submit a booking inquiry, apply for a position, or make a payment. We may collect information from a third party with your consent, or as authorized or required by law (for example, verifying a security license with the issuing body).

4. Why We Collect Personal Information

We collect personal information to:

• Respond to inquiries and assess service requests

• Plan, staff, and deliver close protection, event security, and related services

• Coordinate transportation, accommodations, and other event logistics

• Process payments and manage billing

• Evaluate job applications and confirm required security credentials

• Communicate with clients, staff, and contractors about bookings and assignments

• Conduct pre-event risk assessments for high-risk engagements, where requested

• Meet legal, regulatory, and security-licensing obligations

We won’t use your information for a new purpose beyond this list without asking for your consent first.

5. Consent

We ask for consent before collecting, using, or disclosing your personal information, except where PIPA lets us proceed without it — for example, to investigate a breach of an agreement, collect a debt owed to us, or respond to an emergency that threatens someone’s life, health, or safety.

Depending on the situation, you may give consent orally, in writing, through a form on our site, or by continuing to use our services after being told about a collection. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us, subject to legal or contractual limits — though we may not be able to keep providing certain services without the information involved.

6. How We Use and Share Personal Information

We use and share personal information only for the purposes described in this policy, unless the law says otherwise. We do not sell personal information. We may share it with:

• Team members and contractors assigned to your event, on a need-to-know basis

• Third-party service providers who help us operate (see Section 7)

• Law enforcement or regulators, where required by law or necessary for someone’s safety

• The issuing body for a security license, ProTect, or ProServe certification, to verify credentials

7. Service Providers Outside Canada

We use third-party providers to run parts of our website and business, including Google reCAPTCHA (spam protection on our forms) and GoDaddy / Poynt (our website host and payment platform). Both are based in, and primarily process information in, the United States, as well as any additional partners we engage for a specific assignment. These providers are only authorized to use personal information to deliver their specific service to us, and are bound by confidentiality obligations.

8. Cookies and Website Analytics

Our website uses cookies, as noted in the banner shown when you first visit. These include verification cookies from reCAPTCHA, cookies that support core site functionality, and basic traffic analytics through our website platform. You can decline non-essential cookies using the banner.

9. How We Protect Personal Information

We protect personal information using safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity: access to client and assignment details is limited to team members who need it, physical records such as resumes and license documentation are kept in secure storage, and electronic records are kept on password-protected systems.

If a security breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta without delay, and notify affected individuals where the law requires it.

10. Retention and Destruction

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes it was collected for, or as required by law or industry licensing rules. When information is no longer needed, we destroy or de-identify it securely — shredding physical documents and permanently deleting electronic records.

11. Access, Correction, and Complaints

You may request access to your personal information in our custody, and request correction of any errors, subject to limited exceptions under PIPA (for example, where a request would reveal another person’s personal information or confidential business information).

We will respond within 45 calendar days, unless we notify you of an extension. We may charge a reasonable fee for access requests, but never for corrections, and we’ll tell you about any fee first.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or the law. Updates will be posted here with a new effective date.
